Why it matters

The Declaration of Independence was first read to Bostonians from its balcony in 1776.

Visiting Old State House

Built in 1713, this was the seat of British colonial government. The lion and unicorn on its roof are reminders of royal rule.

Today it's a museum dedicated to the Revolution in Boston.
